Last Friday, I was invited by Repertory Philippines through Mommy Bloggers Philippines to watch their 79th season’s first offering – Ken Ludwig’s The Game’s Afoot.

This comedy, murder, mystery play set on the 1930’s is the perfect new year gift for all theater fans like myself.

With the superb actor line up and the impeccable 1930’s set, you would really feel like you are being transported to a totally different world.

The stellar cast did a fantastic job. Some of them are already my theater favorites like Pinky Amador and Christine Flores who I just watched on the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs musical last year.

Doing comedy, for me, is a big gamble by Repertory Philippines but I’m so glad that they did it. Comedy is so hard to pull off, me thinks. But their stellar cast of excellent actors gave justice to Ken Ludwig’s masterpiece.

It was hilarious. Witty. Charming. We were all glued to the stage and listening intently. Trying to catch clues on this murder mystery story while laughing our pants off on the excellent throw of dialogues.

We were all wowed by the 1930’s set that really looks stunning. Every detail is superb. You could really tell that the production staff put on so much effort on the whole look of the stage.

Their costumes are all so pretty. Very 1930’s. From the hair to the accessories to the clothes. Every little detail was well thought of.

As mentioned, I am a huge theater fan myself. But Repertory Philippines made me realize that I really should watch more of these. And I’d love to tag my daughter along as well. I wanna introduce her to theater as early as possible. I want her to love theater as much as I love it. I want her to appreciate theater.
